श्लोक १७: तीनों प्रकार का तप, श्रद्धापूर्वक, बिना फल-इच्छा के किया जाए तो सात्त्विक है। Verse 17: The threefold austerity practiced with supreme faith and without desire for fruit is sattvic.

श्रद्धया परया तप्तं तपस्त्रिविधं नरैः। अफलाकाङ्क्षिभिर्युक्तैः सात्त्विकं परिचक्षते॥१७॥
śraddhayā parayā taptaṁ tapas tri-vidhaṁ naraiḥ | aphalākāṅkṣibhir yuktaiḥ sāttvikaṁ paricakṣate ||17||

इस प्रकार तीन प्रकार का तप, जो श्रद्धापूर्वक, फल की इच्छा न रखने वाले और युक्त (एकाग्र) पुरुषों द्वारा किया जाता है – वह सात्त्विक कहा जाता है।
English Translation
This threefold austerity, practiced by steadfast men with supreme faith, without desire for fruit – is declared sattvic.
टीका / Commentary
अब भगवान् बताते हैं कि पूर्वोक्त तीन प्रकार के तप (शारीरिक, वाचिक, मानसिक) जब परम श्रद्धा से, बिना फल की इच्छा के और योग्यतापूर्वक किए जाते हैं, तो वे सात्त्विक होते हैं। The threefold austerity (physical, verbal, mental) when performed with supreme faith, without desire for results, and with steadfastness, is declared sattvic.
