सत्कारमानपूजार्थं तपो दम्भेन चैव यत्। क्रियते तदिह प्रोक्तं राजसं चलमध्रुवम्॥१८॥
satkāra-māna-pūjārthaṁ tapo dambhena caiva yat | kriyate tad iha proktaṁ rājasaṁ calam adhruvam ||18||

हिंदी अनुवाद
जो तप सत्कार, मान और पूजा पाने के लिए तथा दम्भ (पाखंड) से किया जाता है – वह राजस कहा गया है, जो चंचल (थोड़े समय का) और अनित्य है।
English Translation
That austerity which is performed for the sake of gaining honor, respect, and reverence, and with hypocrisy – that is here declared rajasic, temporary and unstable.
टीका / Commentary
राजस तप वह है जो लोक-प्रतिष्ठा, सम्मान, या पूजा पाने के लिए किया जाता है और इसमें दम्भ (दिखावा) होता है। ऐसा तप न तो स्थिर होता है और न ही दीर्घकालिक लाभ देता है। Rajasic austerity is performed for the sake of receiving honor, respect, and adoration, and it is accompanied by pride and hypocrisy. It is unstable and yields only temporary results.
