श्लोक १९: मूर्खतावश, आत्म-पीड़न से, या दूसरों का विनाश करने के लिए किया गया तप तामस है। Verse 19: Austerity done with foolish effort, self-torture, or to harm others is tamasic.

मूढग्राहेणात्मनो यत्पीडया क्रियते तपः। परस्योत्सादनार्थं वा तत्तामसमुदाहृतम्॥१९॥
mūḍha-grāheṇātmano yat pīḍayā kriyate tapaḥ | parasyotsādanārthaṁ vā tat tāmasam udāhṛtam ||19||

हिंदी अनुवाद
जो तप मूढ़ ग्रह (मूर्खतापूर्ण आग्रह) से, अपनी पीड़ा (शरीर को कष्ट देकर) किया जाता है, अथवा दूसरों का विनाश करने के उद्देश्य से – वह तामस कहा गया है।
English Translation
That austerity which is performed out of foolishness, with self-torture, or for the purpose of destroying another – is declared tamasic.
टीका / Commentary
तामस तप वह है जो अज्ञान और मूर्खतापूर्ण हठ से किया जाता है, जिसमें स्वयं को या दूसरों को कष्ट देना शामिल होता है। यह किसी आध्यात्मिक उद्देश्य से न होकर हिंसा या विनाश की भावना से प्रेरित होता है। Tamasic austerity is performed out of foolish stubbornness, involving self-torture, or with the intention of harming others. It is devoid of wisdom and leads to suffering.
