पुरुषोत्तम योग (Purushottama Yoga) – श्लोक 1
श्लोक १ में संसार को एक उल्टे अश्वत्थ वृक्ष के रूप में वर्णित किया गया है, जिसके पत्ते वेद हैं। Verse 1 describes the world as an inverted Ashvattha tree, whose leaves are the Vedas.

ऊर्ध्वमूलमधःशाखमश्वत्थं प्राहुरव्ययम् । छन्दांसि यस्य पर्णानि यस्तं वेद स वेदवित् ॥ १॥
ūrdhva-mūlam adhaḥ-śākham aśvatthaṃ prāhur avyayam | chandāṃsi yasya parṇāni yas taṃ veda sa veda-vit ||1||

ऊर्ध्वमूलम्: ऊपर मूल (जड़) वाला; अधःशाखम्: नीचे शाखाओं वाला; अश्वत्थम्: पीपल का वृक्ष; प्राहुः: कहते हैं; अव्ययम्: अविनाशी; छन्दांसि: वेद (छन्द); यस्य: जिसके; पर्णानि: पत्ते; यः: जो; तम्: उस (वृक्ष) को; वेद: जानता है; सः: वह; वेदवित्: वेदों का ज्ञाता है।
हिंदी अनुवाद
ऊपर मूल (जड़) और नीचे शाखाओं वाले अविनाशी पीपल के वृक्ष की बात कहते हैं, जिसके पत्ते वेद हैं; जो उसे जानता है, वह वेदों का ज्ञाता है।
English Translation
They speak of an eternal Ashvattha tree with its root above and branches below, whose leaves are the Vedas; he who knows it is the knower of the Vedas.
टीका / Commentary
यह श्लोक संसार रूपी अश्वत्थ वृक्ष का वर्णन करता है, जिसकी जड़ें ब्रह्म में हैं और शाखाएँ संसार में फैली हैं। इस वृक्ष को जानना ही वेदों का सार जानना है। This verse describes the world as an inverted Ashvattha tree, with its roots in the Supreme and branches in the material world. Knowing this tree is knowing the essence of the Vedas.
